Section 87 Awards Policy

Sectional Distinguished Service Key

  1. This is the highest honor awarded to an individual by the Section. It recognizes people who have contributed significantly to Section 87 in the areas of leadership, fellowship, and service. The award is rarely presented, and thus, the criteria are demanding
  2. The Sectional Distinguished Service Key is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to Section 87 through:
    1. Distinguished service - not just "doing their job"
    2. Continuous service - not just a single project or event
    3. Service to the section - not just one or two chapters
  3. The chapters of Section 87 award the Sectional Distinguished Service Key. Thus, nominations must come from an active member of a chapter or an active member of staff. A nomination for the Section 87 Distinguished Service Key should describe how the nominee has met the criteria.
  4. Nominations must be in writing and received by the Section 87 Awards Coordinator or section chair at least 2 week prior to the Section 87 Conference; or 5 weeks prior to either the Regional Conference or National Convention for voting to occur at a conference.
    1. At the chairs discretion, the vote may be done by mail, as described in the national by-laws for a board vote by mail.
  5. The award is presented after 3/4 of the active chapters in the section vote in the affirmative to award the Key to the nominee.

Joint awards

  1. It is the policy that the chairs from sections 87, 88 and 89 will award certificates to chapters bases on the past years performance
  2. Awards will be split between the sections
  3. Awards will be given on the basis of Leadership, Friendship, and Service, and any other criteria the chairs agree on.
