Boy Scouts of America

Alpha Phi Omega was founded on the principles found in the Boy Scouts of America. While Boy Scout affiliation is no longer required for membership, we have maintained this relationship and are recognized by the national council of the Boy Scouts of America in Irving, Texas.

The Section 87 area covers three councils within the Boy Scouts of America, although there are no current chapters in the Utica/Rome area. The Baden-Powell Council in the Southern Tier serves three of our chapters' areas in Binghamton, Cortland and Ithaca; the Hiawatha Seaway Council, which services Central and Northern New York, serves our chapters in Syracuse and Oswego.

Girl Scouts

Our scouting outreach is not limited to the Boy Scouts of America. We also are recognized by and work with the Girl Scouts.

Our area covers five Girl Scout Councils. Two of those councils, Foothills and Thousand Islands, are in areas which we currently have no chapters. The Girl Scout Council of CNY covers our chapters in Syracuse, Cortland and Oswego; Indian Hills council covers Binghamton; Seven Lakes council covers our chapter in Ithaca.

Campfire USA

We have active support and agreements in place with Campfire USA. The local council to our section is the Camp Fire USA Central New York Council, located in East Syracuse.

Youth Service America

We have agreements in place with Youth Service America. At this time, there is not a YSA presence in the Section 87 servicing area that we are aware of.
